Before I dive in, I think I need to briefly give you the cliff notes version of our back story. In 2010, Alex and I were ready to try our hand at running our own farm. When some family land in New Jersey became temporarily available, we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to give this dream of ours a test run. Our naive little selves figured we could save enough money in a couple years to go buy our own dream plot of land.
Well, it took three years to start saving and another three years before we could finally find a piece of land that would work for us and that we could possibly afford. Well, the affording part is still yet to be seen since the only piece of land we ended up finding had no infrastructure whatsoever aside from a well that had been dug about as far from anywhere we needed water as was possible. Oh yeah, and for some reason that I cannot seem to recall, we thought that the year we moved farms would be the perfect year to add a new member to our family. But here is the good news - it's been a blast! When we started our farm in New Jersey we were partly just getting our feet wet - trying to feel out whether this was a lifestyle we wanted to commit to further. And the more we farmed, the more certain we became. So much so that we decided we wanted to bring a baby into the mix and to dive in head first to this beautiful but challenging property. And if we are being honest, while raw land certainly doesn't make anything easier, it does add to the adventure. The greater the risk, the greater the reward, right? Well, in any event, it is equally overwhelming and inspiring to look at this blank canvas and imagine all that it could become.
